Chapter 1.

FullSizeRenderI first heard of this little town when my friends decided to backpack through Mexico a few years ago.

They stayed on a hammock at the beach for about a month, and told me how incredible it was. This year I finally decided to celebrate my birthday in Tulum, Mexico. I will give you all the details you need to know to have the perfect Mexican vacation!

The Ancient Mayan City of Tulum has recently become a tourist attraction for those looking for a peaceful vacation. It’s located along the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. The closest airport to Tulum is Cancun (CUN) which is two hours away. Once you arrive in Cancun, you can take a private shuttle or taxi that can cost you around $100. There are also other options like taking a shuttle bus, that makes a stop in Playa De Carmen. I recommend taking the ADO shuttle, which is the most affordable ($40). Don’t worry it’s not necessary to make a reservation, shuttles come every 15-30 minutes. As soon as you exit baggage claim you’ll see the ADO vendors outside where you can purchase your tickets.

Once we finally arrived to Tulum we checked into our cute Eco cabana at Playa Mambo. The lovely Argentinean couple who owns Playa Mambo made us feel right at home. They offered us delicious breakfasts each morning with amazing fruit juices, and hosted fun Parrilla dinner parties at night. Everything about this place was perfect.

If you are planning to visit Tulum, and are not on a tight budget I have added the link here so you can check it out! I’ve also had friends that have stayed in hostels and have loved it! Usually when I take long trips I like to stay in Hostels because I love meeting different people from all over the world and hearing their stories, but since it was my birthday I was spoiled. As always a trip must come to an end but I definitely feel that I conquered the city in the week that I was there. I loved that Tulum is not your regular tourist destination, there are no big all inclusive hotels/resorts or loud clubs. I enjoyed the relaxed and intimate ambiance as well as all the beautiful sightings, there is so much to explore! I hope that by sharing my experience with you that I inspire you to take a trip down to Tulum. Stay tuned for Chapter 2.
